GLIAS 2016

The Canadian Forces Snowbirds (431 Air Demonstration Squadron), alongside the CF18 Demonstration Team, will served as the feature entertainment for this year’s festivities. Various military and civilian aircraft, both in the air and on display, will complement these fan favourites. There are many reasons for people to be proud of GLIA’s return, at least according to the president and chair of the airshow board of directors. This year’s show will mark Jim Banman’s first time at the front of the GLIA. One reason for Banman’s excitement is the opportunity to bring the airshow back to life after it took a year off in 2015. The GLIA typically runs every other year, but was pushed back a couple years after the 2013 event. Banman said he believes St. Thomas residents are equally excited to get back on board with the air show again. The airshow will support the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Foundation, St. John Ambulance (St. Thomas), Military Family Resource Centre (London) and Air Cadets 741 (Elgin) Squadron. “I think it’s a good cause. People are passionate about aviation,” Banman said. “It’s a great event for the community, brings in a lot of people from a tourism perspective. It also lets people know what the airport is all about.”
